Julia’s Gems – My redesign of an old favorite.

A few months ago, I purchased 40lbs. of acrylic gems. Why? Well, they were in a grab bag at Michael’s and I love a mystery. I was so excited to open the grab bag and see all of these acrylic beauties. The trouble was, what would I do with all of them? Then, it hit me. Why not create the game, Jacks, but instead of having those little metal thingees, we could use the gems. Next step was to see if the Jacks game was in the public domain, so that I could avoid any trademark or copyright issues. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the game of Jacks was created thousands of years ago, and it went by the name, knucklebones? In the past, shepherds would use sheep knuckles and a ball to play the same game that our kids play today.

Now, this fun game is available in my ETSY. I’ve included all of the games that you can play with this little bag, by going back to an old manual from over 100 years ago that talks about several different variations of Jacks.

The next step was to rename it. Since it clearly is a ‘girly game,’ I named it after my daughter, Julia. Now, we have Julia’s Gems! The game is available on ETSY at $9.99 plus shipping. I only have 50 of them, so put your order in soon. If they sell well, I’ll make more, but it may be a while.
